Most of us have a memory of a 1st-grade classroom, a damp paper towel, and a single seed. To a five-year-old, that seed looks like a period at the end of a sentence. It looks finished. Closed. Stationary.

But the teacher was already at work. The windowsill was already curated. The water was already poured.
